Abstract

The scientific journalism project Cartographies of Sound focuses on the research Sound Archives of the Theater - Implementing a Basis for the Study of the Sonic Dimension in the Performing Arts (FAPESP, Young Investigator, grant nº 2022/15032-4), coordinated by Rafaella Uhiara at the Laboratory of Information and Memory, School of Communications and Arts, University of São Paulo (ECA-USP). This is a large-scale initiative that brings together a significant number of associated researchers, fellows, and institutional partners.The communication proposal is justified by the need for broad, clear, and rigorous dissemination of the knowledge produced, ensuring that the results of the research reach beyond the strictly academic public. The plan includes the production of journalistic content in different media and formats, distributed through digital platforms, institutional channels, and the press, in order to engage not only the scientific community but also artists, technicians, cultural managers, students, and society at large.In addition to promoting visibility for the sonic dimension within the performing arts, communication is a strategic tool to raise awareness about the importance of theatrical sound archives, preventing their dispersal or disposal. By emphasizing their significance, the project seeks to encourage practices of recognition, donation, and consultation of these materials, ensuring their preservation and effective use as cultural heritage.
