Abstract

This project aims to study three exhibitions of contemporary Japanese art held at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro (1971), the Museum of Art in São Paulo (1976), and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (1974). The goal is to map these exhibitions: their curatorial approaches, the participating artists, the agents involved, and the reception by the Brazilian public. We seek to understand the presence of these shows of "contemporary Japanese art" in the three Brazilian institutions during the 1970s, from a geopolitical, cultural, and artistic perspective. (AU)
