Abstract

The present work has as objective to study the benthic macroinvertebrate community of Ribeirão Araras, a tributary of São Francisco River, close to the area that suffered a process of transposition, four decades ago. Samplings will be performed in four points, each three months, during one year period. Besides the biological material, physical and chemical variables of both, water and sediment, will also be analyzed in order to characterize the integrity of the Ribeirão Araras. This study will possibly contribute to the current knowledge on freshwater invertebrate diversity, to the evaluation of the water quality of a river used for human water supply and possibly also to the evaluation of impacts caused by the transposition of water bodies.
