Abstract

The generation of indices related to social and environmental conditions allows the analysis and the valuation of people's quality life in a defined area. Taking in to account that there are a number of factors that can influence these conditions, the composition into a single value can make an analysis simpler. Since many of these indices are evaluated in a qualitative gradation, fuzzy logic can be used to compose an index in a very natural way. The main purpose of the present project is to apply a fuzzy approach to generate an index of social and environmental condition. In order to validate and confirm its applicability and suitability, the results will be compared to those obtained by a standard statistical approach. In this context, it is intended to use data from sectors of the city of Sorocaba - SP, Brazil.
