Abstract

This project aims the development of elementary techniques for compliant mechanisms synthesis, based on the aplication of the Principle of Virtual Work to a kinematic chain composed of rigid beams connected by torcional springs, a simple model that can properly describe the behaviour of a typical surgery laparoscopic instrument. In addition, the "CoMeT" software, a free educational tool to aid compliant mechanisms synthesis, will be used to synthesise that surgery instrument. The results provided by these two methods will be finally compared and analysed.
