In the last years, the only property used as a parameter to control the quality of concrete was compression strength. Nowadays, besides the mechanical proprieties, the durability is being discussed and researched, due to precocious deteriorations of reinforced concrete structures. One of the most common problems is the steel corrosion, which main causes - carbonation and chloride ions attack - have a significant importance in the scientific scenario, since a great number of structures are subjected to these attacks. Thus, this study will verify the behavior of different mixtures of mortars front to CO2 action: accelerated carbonation test and carbonation depth. The conclusions of this research may give bases to development of standard procedures for durability tests, allowing the comparison of results among different works. To evaluate the mortars, some properties will be analyzed, such as specific mass, flow table slump, compression strength, tensile strength and elasticity modulus. The final objective is to contribute in the development of a standard procedure to the accelerated carbonation test, inserting this research in activities of the thematic project "Durability and service life of concrete structures", coordinated by Paulo Helene e Maryangela Geimbra de Lima.
