Abstract

The search for a therapeutic device that can be applied to wounds and oral lesions is a challenge for dentistry. An oral bandage capable of biodegradable drug delivery was developed in order to meet this need. The bandage is made from alginate and chitosan, which are biopolymers with peculiar characteristics. It is biocompatible, bio-available, biodegradable, low-cost and has antimicrobial action, and may be indicated for use in other segments of healthcare. The bandage allows the incorporation of antimicrobial drugs and in this case chlorhexidine will be incorporated. Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial effective in the treatment of ulcerated lesions, trauma and surgical wounds. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the antimicrobial action of bracing in a culture of total microorganisms of oral biofilm. Petri dishes containing culture media Mueller Hinton Agar will first be prepared. Over the culture medium it will be seeded broth containing total microorganisms from oral biofilm and on this culture will be placed in the bandages, which will be incorporated into different components named alginate (Group I), alginate + chitosan (Group II), alginate + chlorhexidine (Group III) chitosan and alginate + + chlorhexidine (Group IV). The plates will be inserted in the greenhouse with an average temperature of 37 ° C for 48 hours. After incubation, the plates will be analyzed and the data will be submitted to a statistical analysis by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney.
