Abstract

The polymeric composites are gaining increasing prominence in the industry aeronautic by its advantages in relation to weight, stiffness and manufacturing process, compared with conventional materials features highly requested by this industry. The advanced composites are of greater interest of the aviation industry because theirs favorable characteristics of low specific weight and high mechanical performance. To meet requirements of the Brazilian aviation industry, the research group of fatigue and aeronautical materials - DMT / EGF / UNESP currently studying composites for aerospace applications, with epoxy systems as RTM6 and VRM34 and some reinforcements of carbon as NC2 and plain weave. The composite epoxy resin SC-79 applied to the reinforcement of manufacture of carbon fiber type plain weave, was selected to study in this work as a new material not yet used, but of great interest. The composite was processed by Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM), one of the most efficient process being used, due to economics and security factors for large scale production. In this study scientific initiation the material will be characterized by inspectional acustic scanning type C-scan, for detection of materials defects; will be tested for traction and fatigue following the norm ASTM D 3049 and by scanning electron microscopy to analyze fracture of corpos de prova, for thermal characterization of the material will be made thermogravimetrical and differential scanning calorimetry. This study will allow the characterization of thermal and mechanical composite, checking whether it attends the norms of aviation for structural application. (AU)
