Abstract

We intend in this work to study and implement computationally the optimization of RC towers to support eolic generators and their respective foundations, submitted to the wind dynamic loading. The costs of the structures and their respective foundations will be minimized. The problem of the cost minimization is an optimization problem. Computational programs, based on the Augmented Lagrangian Method (Chahande and Arora, 1994; Arora, 1999), will be developed and used for so. The design variables of the optimization problems will be the geometric properties of the structural elements and the steel areas of the reinforce concrete structures. For the evaluation of the cost function, we will consider the production cost, including work hand, materials and factory general expenses. Constraints related to the structure capacity, displacements and frequencies of vibration will be applied. In these cases, for analyzes, the tower structures will be modeled as beam finite elements, while the foundations as plate and bars finite elements. In matter, a non-linear dynamic analysis of the towers will be accomplished (Silva and Brasil, 2005) basing on experimental numerical data from Brasil and Silva (2005), where the effective stiffness is calculated in function of the bending level using empiric equations determined in tests accomplished in similar structures. The eolic generators will be treated as a non-ideal dynamic loading (Feitosa and Brasil, 2004). We will compare the performances obtained in the several formulations adopted. It will be ended which design is the most appropriate for each case. Finally, we will publish at least two papers in journals of international prestige, while the programs and designs obtained will be available for base of researches of futures guided and companies of the sector.
