Abstract

This work aims to study the Freud ¿ Lou Andreas-Salomé dialogue about femininity and eroticism. The problematization of the feminine arises in Freud's work from 1905 in Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality, text in which he introduces the idea that there is an infantile sexuality, bringing up highly controversial questions about the sexuality of boys and girls. With a theory based at first on the implications of the presence or absence of a real phallic element for each of them, Freud revises his position on the issue from the beginning of the 1920s, when he starts to conceive the phallus as a symbolic representation with consequences for the sexual development of men and women. The year of 1911, in turn, marks the beginning of an interesting dialogue that would extend itself for more than twenty years between him and the one that would become one of his main admirers, friends and disciples: Lou Andreas-Salomé. She undoubtedly is one of the most prominent female figures in philosophy and literature of the XIX-XX centuries, although only a few studies have been conducted on her life and work, especially on the fruits of her personal and theoretical encounter with Freud. Over the 25 years that she studied and practiced psychoanalysis, Andreas-Salomé stands out as Freud¿s great interlocutor and her questions focus mainly on the theme of eroticism, narcissism, female sexuality and gender differences. Based on it, this thesis aims to investigate thoroughly how the approximation between the ideas of both authors has happened, the influence that the personal and theoretical contact with Freud played in Andreas-Salomé's theory regarding the theme of femininity and eroticism, as well as the additions carried out by her on the subject that have been incorporated in the Freudian work (AU)
