This doctoral thesis has as major theme the discussion about migration and identity processes among workers of the orange harvest in Matão, São Paulo, who are migrants from Alto Médio Canindé of Piauí. The goal is to reconstitute the life path of these rural workers considering the way as they (re)construct their social identities from backwards and forwards. Methodological approaches about oral history and migratory biography will be used in order to understand the social relationships established in the departure, arriving and in the short stay in São Paulo. In addition, we have analyzed quantitative data, especially informations from Census Demographic of 2010 and from the Annual Relation of Social Indicators (RAIS), in order to draw the profile of the migrant worker in São Paulo. The analysis of the content from the field research is made by cross-linking qualitative and quantitative data, which are reviewed according to sociological theories. When this doctoral thesis interlaces migration processes, it has as intent to recompose the complexity of the social path of rural "permanently temporary" workers and restore emerging issues from cities of São Paulo e Piauí.
