Abstract

Richard Wagner is known for revolutionizing the history of opera. When we talk about Wagner, if we want to do a thorough job, we need to approach it in two areas, namely music and philosophy. The first, due to his musical work, makes it obvious how much we should worry and analyze his operas, or as he himself has named it, wagnerian drama. Already the second, was gradually inserted in both his life and his aesthetic writings, letters and compositions, that is, the need to develop something that no other composer has played in the history of music has led him to devote himself to philosophy. The thesis in question shows the path Wagner went through to the work that marked his compositional shift, showing how philosophy can be worked together with music, more specifically with drama. Important names were part of this trend, some of them could not be forgotten, musicians, philosophers, literates, critical, all without exception, somehow had their percentage in the philosophical formation of Wagner. These names will be presented and analyzed carefully to establish their importance to Wagner. Tristan und Isolde will be the Wagnerian drama that will serve us to expose the philosophy of music, the denial and the affirmation of life, being possible only through the philosophy that Wagner appropriated, because this philosophy made him a Schopenhauerian, in the same way that already Understood as a beethovenian. Arthur Schopenhauer is the central philosopher of our research, such as Tristan und Isolde is the schopenhauerian philosophical statement in the form of drama in the eyes of Richard Wagner (AU)
