Abstract

Dorival Caymmi, a composer and singer from Bahia, had an enormous and continuous success during a seventy years career. This doctoral thesis had been written on a disciplinary intersection between Social Anthropology, Ethnomusicology and Social History. It is, basically, a reflection about this successful case in the light of local/national identity negotiations and, also, of some seminal changes concerning Brazilian racial experiences in the twentieth century. The work has three chapters about Caymmi's biography; the musical genre that he has created, the so called canções praieiras; and his compositional skills (AU)
