| Abstract | |
Raymond Williams’ works, especially his theory of culture, are extensively explored in Brazil in several areas of knowledge. However, his theory of communication, which is closely related to his theory of culture, still lacks attention. The translation work, in this sense, dialogues with the needs of the Brazilian academic field, but not only that, we present a historical-sociological analysis of the book Communications. As we understand that by appropriating a text, a translator also appropriates a culture. Counting on three editions: the first in 1962, the second in 1966 and the last in 1975, Communications went through several modifications, revisitations, alterations, additions and deletions, during this period. In this sense, the book will be taken as an essential source of analysis, as it is not only a record of conflicts and crises in the British world, but also shows us how Williams himself elaborated these conflicts. Thus, the contribution is both in terms of understanding the social movements that took place between the 1960s and 1970s in England and how these movements manifest themselves in Williamsian thought (AU) | |
