Cytoplasm inheritance in mammals and effects on pregnancy outcomes

Published by Agência FAPESP - February 11, 2019. Cytoplasmic inheritance has for long been recognized in science, however mechanisms governing its effects and dynamics in mammals are much more complex and involve many different players. This lecture will address the female gamete development, maturation and the cytoplasmic effects on fertilization and early embryo development using animal models. Cytoplasmic contents such as Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), RNAs, Proteins, Lipids and organelles are discussed in light of its correlation with the embryo developmental potential, reprogramming, epigenetic and pregnancy outcome.
