Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees in History from the University of São Paulo, Master's and Doctorate degrees in Social History from the University of São Paulo. She was a collaborating professor at the Freie Universitaet Berlin (Free University of Berlin). From 2006 to 2013 she was an associate professor of Brazilian History at the Federal University of São Paulo - Guarulhos campus. From 2013 to 2017 she was a professor in the Department of History of FFLCH of the University of São Paulo (USP), still linked to the post-graduation of the Department of History of the University of São Paulo (USP). She was a visiting professor at the Catholic University of Eichstätt and a substitute professor at the Department of History at Leibniz University in Hannover. She is currently a professor in the Department of History of Latin America (IHILA) at the University of Cologne, Germany. She has experience in the area of History of Independent Brazil (Empire and First Republic). Research on travel literature, scientific expeditions, cultural and knowledge transfers (especially between Germany and Brazil), relationship between historiography and travel literature, racial discourse, places of memory, narratives of immigrants.
