Birthplace: Brazil

Prof. Ângelo de Fátima holds a Licentiate and Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of Viçosa (1999), a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry (2002), a Doctorate in Sciences (2005), and a Post-doctorate in Biochemistry-Signal Transduction (2006) from the State University of Campinas. He is a member of the FAPEMIG Interdisciplinary Evaluation Chamber (06/2025-Present). Prof. de Fátima is the responsible for the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of V4N2 (the calixcoca API), (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jare.2021.09.003). In 2023, Prof. de Fátima and other researchers involved in the calixcoca project won the EURO Highlight Award. Since 2022, he has been a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry of the Institute of Exact Sciences (ICEx) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He has expertise in the area of Organic and Biological Chemistry (emphasis on Organic Synthesis), working mainly on the following topics: (i) synthesis of molecules with biological and/or technological functional profiles, (ii) total synthesis of natural products and analogs with pharmacological/immunological activity, (iii) synthesis of immunogens/vaccines for the treatment of chemical dependence, and (iv) synthesis of new psychoactive substances (NPS) for biophysical/pharmacological and forensic studies. He serves as a reviewer for various indexed scientific journals and as an advisor for national/international funding agencies. He served as an ex-officio and/or invited member of the editorial board of the journals The Chemical Record, Journal of Advanced Research, and Journal of Chemistry. Since 2015, he has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Advanced Research. He was Vice-coordinator (11/2011-04/2014) and Coordinator (05/2014-08/2017) of the Graduate Program of the Department of Chemistry, ICEx, UFMG, President (08/2021-12/2023) and Member of the User Committee (10/2024-10/2026) of the Extension and Service Provision Center of the DQ, ICEx, UFMG, and coordinator of the Minas Gerais Chemistry Olympiad (2008-2010). He was a founding partner of the company Hargon - Mental Health Research and Development Ltda (2019-2022), a company whose mission was to promote the insertion of health technologies into the market. He is coordinator of the INCT (National Institute of Science and Technology) in Urease Inhibitors of Agricultural and Medicinal Interest, of the Minas Gerais Network of Bio-stimulants and Enhanced Efficiency Fertilizers, and of the Organic and Biological Chemistry Study Group (GEQOB). In his career as a professor/researcher, he has published 3 books, 182 articles in scientific journals, 17 book chapters, and is the inventor of 20 patent applications (8 granted), one of which is international. According to Stanford University (USA) in 2022 and 2024, Prof. de Fátima was considered one of the 64 most influential UFMG scientists in the world. Prof. de Fátima has organized 31 regional/national and international scientific events, including traditional events of the Brazilian Chemical Society, the Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (17th and 18th eds) and the Brazilian Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (10th edition - Chair). He has supervised 17 Master's dissertations, 26 Doctoral theses, 9 postdoctoral fellowships, 15 course completion works, 75 scientific initiation projects, and 14 undergraduate internships at UFMG. He currently supervises 4 Master's dissertations, 9 Doctoral theses, 3 postdoctoral fellowships, and 9/4 scientific initiation projects/course completion works. Prof. Ângelo de Fátima is a member of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), the Brazilian Society of Soil Science (SBCS), and the Brazilian Society of Forensic Sciences (SBCF).
