Mechanical Engineer (1982), PhD in Mechanical Engineering (1988) and Full Professor (1992) from the University of São Paulo - School of Engineering of São Carlos. Post Doc at the University of California - Berkeley (1994). He was CEO of IPT - Institute for Technological Research of the State of São Paulo from 2008 to 2012. He was co-founder and first President of EMBRAPII - The Brazilian Enterprise for Research and Innovation in Industry. He is currently Professor at the School of Engineering of São Carlos, University of São Paulo. He is a member of the editorial board of the journals: CIRP Annals and Machining Science and Technology. He is member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering - CIRP. He has experience in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on machining, automation and sustainability, acting on the following topics: precision grinding, process monitoring and production systems and sustainable manufacturing processes. Supervised 30 dissertations and 18 PhD theses. He has about 250 papers published in journals, conferences, magazines and newspapers and 5 patents in the INPI-Brazil and one in Germany. He was awarded the Commendation (2007) and Grand Cross (2010) of the National Order of Scientific Merit of the Presidency of Brazil. Won the FCW - Science and Culture award from Conrado Wessel Foundation (2010), received the Anisio Teixeira Award for his contribution to education and research (2011), the Personality of Technology Award from Association of Engineers os São Paulo (2001) and the SAP Americas Innovation Award (2000). He has developed innovative projects and act as consultant for the companies: TRW Automotive U.S., Europe and Asia, Chrysler, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, BMW and Saint Gobain Abrasives USA. Has supported the creation of two new high-tech companies. Currently he is member of the Board of FAPESP, IPT, INSPER and the National Institute of Technology of Brazil.
