André Damasio is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Tissue Biology at the Institute of Biology at UNICAMP, where he founded the Laboratory of Enzymology and Molecular Biology of Microorganisms (LEBIMO). Graduated in Industrial Pharmacy (2005), he obtained the title of Doctor in Biochemistry (2011) with an emphasis in Biochemistry of Microorganisms at the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto - USP. Part of the PhD was held at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Oklahoma State University, OK, USA (2009), where he developed tools for producing heterologous proteins in Aspergillus. Also, in 2010, he held part of the PhD at the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry / CSIC, Madrid, Spain, where he applied techniques of immobilization and stabilization in target enzymes. In 2011, he joined the National Laboratory of Bioethanol Science and Technology (CTBE), Campinas-SP, initially as a Post-Doctorate (2011-2013) and then as a FAPESP Young Researcher (2013-2015). His research group is dedicated to studying "microbial biomanufacturing", mainly the production of recombinant proteins. Currently coordinates a FAPESP Thematic Grant whose main objective will be to establish a filamentous fungus strain for the production of different recombinant proteins such as Carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes), Plastic-active enzymes (PAZymes), and Alternative Proteins in the context of the food industry. Moreover, LEBIMO is also part of The Brazilian National Institute of Science and Technology in Human Pathogenic Fungi (INCT-FUNVIR), where we contribute studying relationship between acylation of proteins and fungal virulence.
