Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP)  (Institutional affiliation for the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

I have a bachelor degree in Animal Science from UNESP (1988), a Master's degree in Ecology from UNICAMP (1992) and a PhD in Ecology from the University of Cambridge (1998). Since 2011, I have been a member of the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ribeirão Preto, USP, where I also coordinate the Laboratory of Ecology and Conservation. I am accredited as a full advisor in the programs "Comparative Biology" (ecology area) of FFCLRP/USP and "Applied Ecology" of ESALQ/USP (Piracicaba) and as a collaborator in the program "Ecology and Biodiversity" at UNESP Rio Claro. My research focus is mainly concentrated in the ecology applied to conservation, particularly involving Neotropical mammals. I also integrate a IUCN specialist group (Anteater, sloth and armadillo specialist group) and the editorial board of the journal (online) Tropical Conservation Science. I work as an advisor to São Paulo Science Funding Agency (FAPESP), Brazilian Research Council (CNPq), among other agencies, and to several national and international journals. I was a CNPq fellow at the Mello Leitão Museum between 1999 and 2001, a professor in the graduate program in Vertebrate Zoology and in the Course of Biological Sciences at PUC-Minas in Belo Horizonte between 2001 and 2011 and editor of the Bulletin of the Mello Leitão Biology Museum between 2001 and 2006. Since 2006, I am a productivity fellow at CNPq. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
