I am primarily a clinical rheumatologist whose work focuses on assisting as well as practicing academic activities. As a scholar, my focus is on clinical science, mainly on patient-centered outcomes and health services on rheumatic disease. Currently, I am a professor of Rheumatology at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, where I have been since late August 2014 where I have been working as a clinical rheumatologist and researcher. I dedicate 30% of my time to research and mentoring junior researchers, 20% of my time to lecturing, 45% to clinical care and 5% to administrative responsibilities. My lecturing activities are primarily in clinical rheumatology. I also precept residents in Clinical Rheumatology and attend Rheumatology consultations. I believe to be one of the pioneer Brazilian scholars to have systematically contributed to the literature that addresses the determinants of SDM in Rheumatology setting from multiple perspectives: rheumatic patient perspective on SDM, primary and secondary care communication, multi-professional team, SDM, and the like. I have established a program of research on this topic with an expert multi-disciplinary collaborative team. I am the leader of a research group called ?Patient-centered outcome research group". Such group aims to grow into multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams in order to (1) contribute to the theoretical basis of shared decision making and (2) develop, test and validate strategies for its application in health care, both individual and public care. Additionally, this research group has been exhaustively working to explore methodological strategies that may enhance the understanding of decision-making processes in the context of Medicine and Health. I am a strong enthusiast for Rheumatology Clinical practice. It is important to emphasize other professional skills and experiences that corroborate my abilities and expertise as a practitioner. I am in charge of a systemic lupus erythemathosus outpatient clinic and early arthritis outpatient clinic. In these activities, I both see patients and supervise residents in rheumatology training. I strongly believe that my abilities as a practitioner improve my academic actions and vice verse. Therefore, I work hard and dedicate my time on both activities.
