Wanderley Pereira de Oliveira holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (1996), and is an Associate Professor III at the University of São Paulo, since 1994. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada (20062007), where he was also appointed Visiting Associate Professor. Additionally, he conducted technical visits and short-term research stays at UBC, Vancouver, and McGill University, St. Anne de Bellevue Campus, Canada. As the coordinator of the Research and Development Laboratory in Pharmaceutical Processes (LAPROFAR), he is recognized as a leader in phytopharmaceutical technology, micro-, and nanostructured systems applied to human and animal health, aquaculture, and agriculture, as well as drying, coating, and encapsulation processes. He has published over 316 scientific works, including 117 indexed articles. His Google Scholar H-index is 38, with 5,561 citations. His research outcomes have resulted in three granted patents and four others under review at the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).He is the editor of the book Phytotechnology: A Sustainable Platform for the Development of Herbal Products (CRC Press, 2022) and the author of international book chapters in fields such as nanotechnology, drying of plant extracts, and essential oil encapsulation. Notable chapters include:Design and characterization of the electrospun nanofibers mats. In: Electrospun Nanofibres. CRC Press, 2023.Drying of phytochemical compositions by spouted bed. In: Phytotechnology. CRC Press, 2022.Encapsulation of essential oils in lipid-based nanosystems. In: Phytotechnology. CRC Press, 2022.Registration of phytomedicines - technical requirements and highlights on regulation instruments. In: Phytotechnology. CRC Press, 2022.Standardisation of herbal extracts by drying technologies. In: Phytotechnology. CRC Press, 2022.Biofate and cellular interactions of nanoparticles. In: Nanoparticle Therapeutics. Academic Press, 2021.Drug delivery systems for targeting blood-brain barrier. In: Micro- and Nanotechnologies-Based Product Development. CRC Press, 2021.He also serves as a Topic Editor for the Physical Pharmacy and Formulation section of the journal Pharmaceutics and was invited to edit two special issues: Phytopharmaceutical Technology (2021) and Spray Drying and Encapsulation of Pharmaceuticals and Phytopharmaceuticals (2023).Currently, he leads or is the Principal Investigator in globally relevant projects, including the extraction and encapsulation of bioactives for immunostimulants, the development of short nanofibers for agricultural applications, and ophthalmic nanoformulations. Among these, the FAPESP Thematic Project Challenges in the Use of Drugs in Aquaculture within the 'One Health' Context stands out, bringing together institutions such as USP, UNICAMP, UNESP, and a multinational company. In human resource development, he has been a full advisor for the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPGCF-FCFRP/USP) since 1999. To date, he has supervised 15 masters dissertations, 11 doctoral theses, and 6 postdoctoral projects, in addition to overseeing 45 undergraduate research projects with scholarships. Currently, he supervises 7 doctoral students (3 as co-advisor), 1 masters student, 3 undergraduate research projects, and 3 final course projects. He maintains partnerships with centers of excellence in Brazil and abroad, including the University of Porto, University College Dublin (UCD), and Universidad de La Frontera, where he serves as a Visiting Professor (20242027).Recognized for his academic excellence and technological innovation, he has received 12 awards and honors for his scientific contributions.
