Marcelo dos Santos received the B.Sc. degree in Systems Analysis in 1998 from the University of Ribeirão Preto (Unaerp), Brazil; the M.Sc. degree in Physics Applied to Medicine and Biology in 2002, and the Ph.D. in Electronic Systems in 2006, both from and from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Brazil. Since 2009, he is a professor in Information Systems Management with the Librarianship and Documentation Department at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Currently, he supervises M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in areas such as digital libraries of images of works of art, information behaviour of healthcare users, health information seeking, rural information management, and medical image databases. For over 10 years, he has been involved in the development and application of computer database systems for archiving, communicating, processing, analysis, and display of clinical data (including images, text information and signals). Some of these systems are designed for use in radiology teaching and evidence based-medicine practices. In addition, such systems provide datasets for medical image processing methods (algorithms) development and assessment. His research interests include information management, digital libraries, information seeking, image databases, image processing, medical image visualization, telemedicine, and electronic media and information and communication technology in education.
