She holds a Bachelors degree in Language and Literature (Translation) from Faculdade Ibero-Americana (1982), a Masters degree in Linguistics and the Portuguese Language from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1989), and a Ph.D. in Linguistics and the Portuguese Language from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1995). She completed postdoctoral studies at the State University of New York (20002001) and at the University of Amsterdam (20092010). She conducted a research internship at the University of Amsterdam (20132014 and 2024). She is currently an assistant professor at the Júlio de Mesquita Filho State University of São Paulo. She is on the board of the Functional Grammar Foundation. She has experience in the field of Linguistics, with an emphasis on Linguistic Theory and Analysis, focusing primarily on the following topics: functionalism, linguistic typology, modality, evidentiality, tense, and aspect.
