Graduated as Medical Doctor at the Universidade Federal do Paraná, in 1973. Fellow at the Internal Medicine Department, School of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of Sao Paulo, with specialization on Nephrology. Master (1980) and PhD (1984) in Clinical Medicine at the University of Sao Paulo. Post doctoral training at the University René Descartes (Paris, France).
