Esper Abrão Cavalheiro , MD, is Full Professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Escola Paulista de Medicina, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil. He is member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the International League Against Epilepsy, the International Bureau for Epilepsy and Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences from the São Paulo State. He acted as President of the National Research Council (CNPq) and as Secretary for Programs and Policies at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil. He served as President of the Brazilian National Forum of the Deans of Graduate Studies, Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Neurology and Neuroscience at UNIFESP. His research activities are focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying the major neurological disorders. He has published more than 400 papers in refereed scientific journals. He was the recipient of important national and international awards such as the Grand Cross of the Scientific Merit from the Brazilian Government, Milken Award from the American Epilepsy Association and the Michael Prize from the International League Against Epilepsy. Esper Cavalheiro acted as Dean of Planning at UNIFESP from 2013-2017. He became Dean of Graduate Studies and Research in May 2017. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
