graduated in Biology (Diplom) at the Georg August Universität Göttingen (1991) and received his Dr. rer. nat. at the Department of Medizinische Mikrobiologie at the Universität Göttingen (1995). Has experience in Parasitology, focusing on Parasite Protozoology, acting on the following subjects: malaria, plasmodium, antigenic variation (PfEMP1, RIFIN) and mechanisms orchestrating antigenic variation.
