Graduated in Electrical Engineering, with specialization in Computer Science, from the University of São Paulo (1985) and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo (1995). He was a visiting researcher at the Image Science Institute, Utrecht University, Netherlands (1996) and at the University of Southern California, United States (2006-2007). He currently coordinates the Division of Informatics and the Biomedical Informatics Laboratory of the Heart Institute, University of Sao Paulo Medical School, works as a collaborating professor at the Faculty of Medicine and at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo and is an elected member (2020) of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI) of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). He has over 30 years of experience in the areas of Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Informatics, working mainly in the processing of biological signals and medical images.
