Elaine Del-Bel has been a Full Professor of Physiology at FORP-University of Sao Paulo since October 2013. She holds a PhD in Pharmacology from FMRP-USP in Ribeirão Preto. The postdoctoral degree was held in England (Manchester University). Has completed short internships in countries with which he has projects in collaboration: Prof. J. Nicholls, Escuola Internazionale di Studi Superiori (SISSA-Trieste Italy); Prof. W. Sthumer-Institute Max Planck for Experimental Medicine, Göttingen, Germany; Dr. R. Raisman Vozari INSERM, Paris, France; Prof. H. Steinbuch, Maastrichth, Netherlands; Prof. F. Kirchhoff- University of Homburg- Saarland-Germany. Has experience in the field of Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Physiology, with emphasis on the central nervous system. Currently, studies focus on two experimental models: (1) Parkinson's disease, and the consequences of treatment with the precursor of Dopamine (Levodopa): (2) in Schizophrenia, using the paradigm of the inhibition reaction to pre- pulse rate by analyzing the sensory motor damage produced by amphetamine. It tests the hypothesis that nitric oxide, cannabidiol and antibiotics act as neuroprotectors in neurodegenerative / neuropsychiatric diseases. The studies allowed the description that the blockade of the nitric oxide synthesis enzymes, the antibiotic doxycycline, are neuroprotective in the damage of the dopaminergic system and decrease the deleterious effect of the treatment with Levodopa in animals with the parkinsonian syndrome. She also described the neuroprotective effect of cannabidiol and nitric oxide on sensory motor damage induced by amphetamine. The main projects underway in the laboratory are the Neurodegenerative and Neuropsychiatric Diseases Study; Experimental Parkinson; Analysis of neuroinflammation in levodopa-induced dyskinesia; Experimental Schizophrenia: the antibiotics, nitrergic and endocanabinoid systems in the sensorimotor function. It has 164 papers published (English, 2704 citations ICI, H28, Google Scholar H36). She has research projects funded by FAPESP and CNPQ CAPES and IBRO. Received national and international awards as the USP PhD Prize, Health Area-2014 (F. Padovan-Neto); 2018 the Bernice Grafstein Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Mentoring (SfN-USA). She lectured in international meetings/symposiums: the prestigious Royal Society (UK), Neurotoxicity Society (Chile, Spain), IBRO World (RJ), University of Chicago (USA), UNAM- Mexico, Basal Ganglia Society Saarland-Germany, Max-Planck-Göttingen Institute, The Physiological Society (UK), Society for Neurosciences (USA); Dopamine2016-Vienna-Austria, Central European Biomedical Congress, Poland. She is part of the IBRO-VLT team and has taught courses in Africa, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, India and Paraguay.
