Bachelor and Master in Physics degrees obtained from the University of São Paulo (USP), PhD in Physics (1988) from the Institute for Theoretical Physics (IFT). I am presently full professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, São Paulo State University (IFT-UNESP). I am active in Physics and Applied Mathematics. This project aims to support the visit of Prof. Kamchatnov to IFT-UNESP for a period of six monthes. Research is focused on the theory of nonlinear waves and specifically centered on the developement of asymptotic methods in modulation theory, particularly for the Camassa-Holm and generalized KdV equations. This project is about spatial structured population dynamics, mainly using reaction-diffusion equations. It is intended to understand how habitat degradation and fragmentation, mostly caused by human activities, influences in such ecosystems´ interactions. The greater part of this project is focused on theoretical approaches, but adjusting models to real data is also of interest. (AU)
This project proposes to study the effects of spatial heterogeneities on the dynamics of populations. The focus is on highly fragmented areas, like the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We intend to use numerical methods to solve reaction-diffusion equations e analyze how patterns of persistence, coexistence and exclusion are affected by the spatial arrangement of fragments.

This project is about complex networks in biology, mainly in ecology and epidemiology. Two lines of investigation will be pursued: inferring network structure from data presented as time-series, by causality methods, and the study of the thermodynamic limit on networks.
