Hello, welcome to my CV Lattes! Im from Montes Claros, in northern Minas Gerais. My academic and professional qualifications are: (A) B.Sc. in Physics - UFMG (1987); (B) Specialization in Modern Biotechnology - Biotechnology Center of UFRGS (1988); (C) M.Sc. in Computer Modelling and Simulation of Molecular Biological Processes - University of London (1990); (D) Ph.D. in Computational Molecular Biophysics - University of London (1994). From 1995 to 1998 I worked at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at PNNL, US Department of Energy, and from 1999 to 2001 at the National Synchrotron Light Source Laboratory in Campinas, SP, Brazil. In this period, I was an FAPESP Young Researcher. In March 2001, I joined the Faculty of Informatics (FACIN) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) as an FAPERGS Visiting Researcher. Since June 2002, I am an associate professor at PUCRS, to where I brought the Laboratory for Bioinformatics, Modelling Simulation of Biosystems (LABIO), a regional, national and international reference in the areas of structural bioinformatics and computational molecular biophysics. At CNPq, I lead the Group of Computational Molecular Biophysics (GBMC). Our research focuses on the relationship between sequence, structure, dynamics and function of biological macromolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, and their complexes. We develop and apply computational methods to investigate these relationships. Our research interests are in, but not limited to, the following topics: structure and dynamics of nucleic acids, structure and dynamics of proteins, prediction of three-dimensional (3-D) structure of proteins, simulation of receptor-ligand interactions, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, comparative homology modeling, computer-aided drug design, and molecular docking of Fully Flexible Receptors (FFR) Model-ligands. I was a member and supported the activities of the Graduate program Biomedical Gerontology of the IGG PUCRS and Education in Science and Mathematics (EDUCEM). I am a permanent member of the following Graduate Programs: Computer Science (PPGCC at FACIN), Molecular Cellular Biology (PPGBCM at FaBio) and Professional Master in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (PPGMPBF at FFARM) of PUCRS. I was elected board member of the Brazilian Association for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology AB3C (2007-2008) and have been a member of the Special Commission of Computational Biology (CEBioComp) of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) since 2009. On August 12, 2011, I was elected coordinator of the SBC CEBioComp for the period 2011-2012. I'm an "ad hoc" consultant for CNPq, CAPES, FAPERGS, FAPESP, FACEPE, FUNDECT, FIOCRUZ, LNCC, FOUNDATION ARAUCÁRIA, former associate editor of ISRN Bioinformatics and BMC Genomics, associate ediutor of Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences, reviewer for many journals and conferences, national and international. I coordinated and participated in the translation of the primary textbook of bioinformatics available in the Portuguese language. I formed and contributed to the formation of more than 20 M.Sc., dozens of Ph.D., and undergraduate students, with expertise originating from diverse fields, such computer science, computer engineering, information systems, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, dentistry, biomedicine, pharmacy, and education. I published more than 50 scientific articles in leading journals and conferences. I edited a book in English and organized technical meetings. I have several technological productions and two patents. For contact, write me an e-mail: labio.osmarnds@gmail.com. Thanks for your interest. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
