Associate Professor, State University of Sao Paulo at Rio Claro; Graduated in Biological Sciences by the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP); Masters in Bacterial Genetics (UNICAMP); D. Phil. in Biochemistry, University of Oxford, UK.Current interests: biology of the Gram-negative bacterium Xanthomonas citri (Xac). Xac is the etiological agent of citrus canker, a disease that affects orange trees worldwide. The characterization of some of the essential processes of Xac (e.g. cell division and chromosome segregation) has enabled us to develop antimicrobials to control the disease caused by this plant-pathogen.
