Birthplace: Brazil

I work in research and outreach. As a scientist, I am interested in the role of mycorrhizae for the ecology, evolution and conservation of Brazilian orchids. I also coordinate of the outreach program "Plant Diversity in Focus", which aims to raise public awareness on the importance of biodiversity conservation and scientific research, using plants as a model. I have experience with systematics and phylogeny of orchids and using molecular markers for population and phylogenetic studies. I am currently an assistant professor at the Department of Plant Biology at the State University of Campinas/IB. I previously worked as an assistant professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (2008-2015) and as a Young Researcher / FAPESP fellow at the University of São Paulo (ESALQ / USP) (2007). I have a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994-1998) and a Master's and Doctorate in Plant Biology from the State University of Campinas (1999-2007).Websites: samanthakoehler-lab.weebly.com (research), diveg.weebly.com (outreach - in portuguese)Twitter: @samk_BR (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
