Graduated in Agricultural Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1969), with specialization in Forestry, Master in Crop Science from the University of São Paulo (1973), Ph.D. in Biometrics - North Carolina State University (1977) and Postdoctorate in Statistical Distributions by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Trieste-Italy), and Quality Control in Forest Industries by the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute - Tsukuba-Japan. He is currently a full professor at the University of São Paulo. He was Director of the Computer Center of USP's Luiz de Queiroz Campus in Piracicaba for 8 years and member of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) Reforestation Working Group. Authored as Lead Author of the 2013 Revised Supplementary Guidance Arising from Kyoto Protocol (IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). He is a member of CTNBio - National Commission on Biosafety - Ministry of Science and Technology acting in the Environment Chamber. It has a patent registered with INPI on methodology for PSA (Payment for Environmental Services). He is currently Head of the Department of Forest Sciences at USP. Has experience in Agronomy and Natural Resources, focusing on Applied Statistics, Forest Inventory and Growth Models, acting on the following subjects: biomass, agronomic experimentation, carbon, greenhouse gas emissions and removals inventory, reforestation , reclamation of degraded areas, sampling, growth, forestry, and soils. Currently develops methodology for inventory of emissions and removals of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, biodiversity sampling and agronomic experimentation.removals of greenhouse effect gases in the atmosphere.
