Abstract
The clade Calyptrata in Diptera comprises 15 families and over 20,000 species, about 12% of the world Diptera diversity. The Calyptratae are divided into three superfamilies: Hippoboscoidea, Muscoidea and Oestroidea. The Neotropical diversity of the group comprises 5,000 species, 1/4 of world diversity.
