Waste of resources from biodiversity is huge in Brazil and worldwide. The wide variety of marine organisms (algae, molluscs, sponges, corals, etc.) that are caught together with fish and shrimp is completely ignored as a source of new molecules. Due to the low economic value, the fishermen despise them, because they are not marketable as food. The shrimp fishery is one of the most striking …
Increased life expectancy has increased the demand for drugs useful in the treatment of chronic diseases, especially those affecting the digestive tract (gastric and duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), diabetes, cancer and other inflammatory diseases. The use of standardized herbal drugs with efficacy and safety has presented some surprising results. In Brazil, there…

With increasing life expectancy, the prevalence of chronic diseases (peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, metabolic syndrome) has risen among the population. High cost and adverse side effects have led to a search for herbal medicines. However, the market is more demanding, and a search of safer and effective alternatives to prevent and cure these diseases is needed. In this context…
The viruses that cause Zika Fever, Dengue Fever and Chikungunya Fever are mainly transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti. These diseases have generated major concerns in public health institutions because of the risk they generate to great part of the Brazilian population. Also, A. aegypti is distributed globally, reaching specially high densities in the South American continent. Theref…
Herbal form an alternative route for synthetic drugs, either by the lower cost, lack of access to common remedies or lack of confidence in allopathy. However, there is a deficit in Brazil of scientific studies to confirm the correct composition and botanical identification of medicinal plants. This fact can be confirmed by the genus Plantago. The Brazilian society mainly uses four distinc…

Peptic ulcer is a common disease found to be prevalent worldwide, and which affects a large number of people. Continued use of drugs in anti-ulcer therapy often produces several side effects. The present project has been designed as part of the efforts to develop an efficient treatment capable of ensuring essentially more effective pharmacological effects to patients who are faced with th…
The use of plants of the Brazilian flora as a source of active principles has been increasingly effective in the search for medicines. However, little has been done to transform this potential into new product development and patents. The present postdoctoral proposal will continue the studies of the thematic project "Standardized herbal medicine for the treatment of chronic diseases" of …
The proposed postdoctoral is linked to the Thematic Project FAPESP: "Standardization herbal medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases "intends to conduct a study with Arrabidaea brachypoda species, to enable the development of a phytomedimedicine according to the requirements of current legislation. In a second moment, a profundidade in pharmacological tests with compounds already i…
