She holds a degree in Biological Sciences (Bachelor's and Bachelor's degrees) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1993-1997) and a PhD in Sciences, Area of #8203;#8203;Concentration: Physiology, from the Federal University of São Carlos (2000-2004). She completed her doctoral internship (2002) at the Department of Microbiology, University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville, VA, USA and a post-doctorate (2005-2006) at the Institute de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM, Unité 553) in Paris, France. She was awarded a Visiting Fellowship (2015) by the University of Nottingham, England. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Federal University of São Carlos. She coordinates the LABEN - Laboratory of Biology of Aging - located in the Department of Gerontology at UFSCar. She leads the research group Biology of Aging registered in the CNPq research groups directory. She is a supervisor in the Graduate Program in Gerontology (PPGGero/UFSCar), which is part of the Network of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs on Aging (REPRINTE). She also supervises in the Interinstitutional Graduate Program in Physiological Sciences (UFSCar/UNESP). She is a reviewer for several journals in the area of #8203;#8203;Aging, Alzheimer's disease and Cancer and a scientific advisor for Brazilian (CNPq and FAPESP) and foreign funding agencies (Alzheimer's Association, FONDECYT-Chile, Czech Science Foundation-Czech Republic, United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation and The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development). She is a member of the Committee for the Evaluation of Proposals for New Courses (APCN), of the CAPES quadrennial evaluation and of the CAPES Thesis Award in the Interdisciplinary area. He has projects in collaboration with several international institutions such as Trinity College Dublin - Ireland, University of Nottingham - UK, Università degli Studi di Milano - Italy, Universitat de València and Universitat de Barcelona - Spain, Université du Quebec à Montréal - Canada, Olivia Newton John Cancer Research Institute - Australia, University of California in Berkeley, Virginia Commonwealth University and Purdue University - USA. He is a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Cell Biology and Biochemistry, with an emphasis on Molecular Biology, working mainly on the following topics: aging, elderly, biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease, ADAMs, cancer and mammalian cell culture.
