Marko Synésio Alves Monteiro

Birthplace: Brazil

holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences (1997), a Master's degree in Social Anthropology (2000) and a PhD in Social Sciences (2005), all from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He also completed a postdoctoral internship at the University of Texas at Austin, in the Science, Technology and Society program (2006-2008), and at the Department of Science and Technology Policy at UNICAMP (2009-2010). He is currently an associate professor (MS 5.2) at the Department of Science and Technology Policy at UNICAMP. He is the leader of the Interdisciplinary Research Group in Science and Technology (GEICT) since 2011; and co-leader of the CIRIS study group - Governance, Risk and Communication, together with Prof. Gabriela Di GIulio (FSP/USP). He also participates in the Scientific Dissemination Sub-Network of the Climate Network (Rede Clima); He has participated in the Science, Technology and Education Committee of ABA - Brazilian Anthropology Association (2019-2020). He is a member and the current First Secretary of the Board of ESOCITE.BR - Brazilian Association of Social Studies of Science and Technology (2023-2025). He is currently an elected member of the board of 4S - Society for the Social Studies of Science (2023-2026). He is a member of the Management and Scientific Council of the AmazonFACE project. His current research covers the following topics: anthropology of Science and Technology; ethnographies of scientific practices; sociotechnical controversies; governance of science and technology; interface between science and policies.
