Dr Luis LP da Silva obtained his Bachelors degree in Pharmacy (1999) and his MSc degree (2002) at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and his PhD at the University of Leeds, UK (2006). He was a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the NICHD-National Institutes of Health (NIH) (Bethesda, MD, USA) from 2006 to 2009. He is Associate Professor of Cell Biology at the Ribeirao Preto Medical School at the University of Sao Paulo. Dr. da Silva studies the molecular mechanisms that control the trafficking of proteins within the cell endomembrane system, and how envelope viruses, in particular the HIV and bunyaviruses, manipulate this system to support viral replication and pathogenesis.
