Birthplace: Brazil

Holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (1996) and a master's degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology (1999), both from the Institute of Biology at the University of Campinas (IB/Unicamp). Earned a Ph.D. in Biomolecular Physics (2004) from the Institute of Physics of São Carlos, University of São Paulo (IFSC/USP). Completed postdoctoral research (until 2009) at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA). Achieved the title of Livre-Docente (2018) from the Department of Physics and Interdisciplinary Science (FCI) at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos, University of São Paulo (IFSC/USP). Since 2010, has been a Lead Researcher at the National Biosciences Laboratory of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (LNBio, CNPEM). In 2022, became the Leader of the LNBio Science Division and, in 2023, the Head of the Integrative Biology Division. In this division, oversees the work of five research groups focusing on Molecular and Cellular Sociology, Non-Membranous Condensates, Protein Design, Nuclear Structure, and Computational Biology. Research is centered on understanding metabolic alterations associated with tumorigenesis, with an emphasis on glutamine metabolism and metabolic exchanges within the tumor microenvironment. The work integrates molecular biology, protein biochemistry, conventional and in situ structural biology, 2D and 3D cellular biology (spheroids and organoids), and in vivo models.
