received his Undergraduate Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) in 1991, concluded his Master Thesis in 1993 and obtained his Dr.E.E. degree in 1996, both in Automation, from the Electrical Engineering Graduate Program of Unicamp. He is Full Professor (MS-6) at Unicamp since January 2015. His undergraduate teaching activities involves Control Systems and Computer Engineering. He is an expert in the areas of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, is the header of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Bioinspired Computing (LBiC), and undertakes research and academic extension activities in Computational Intelligence, Bioinspired Computing, Autonomous Robotics, Bioinformatics, Multivariate Data Analysis, Machine Learning, and Continuous and Discrete Optimization. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, associated editor of the International Journal of Natural Computing Research (IGI), reviewer of high-impact journals, ad hoc advisor of institutions for the financial support of research, and member of the program committee of annual conferences in the areas of Intelligent Systems, Electrical and Computer Engineering. Aiming at providing support for research and development projects in the context of academic extension, the ones capable of promoting the diffusion of academic knowledge and of transforming innovation into products and services, he develops cooperation agreements and partnerships with companies in the areas of information technology and knowledge management. He is Principal Investigator of the Fapesp Projects: (1) SMARTNESS Engineering Research Center (process no. 2021/00199-8); (2) Viva Bem Engineering Research Center (process no. 2024/08371-2). He has published 91 full papers in national and international journals, more than 250 full papers in the annals of national and international conferences (part of them as book chapters), and has concluded the supervision of 44 Master Theses and 18 Doctoral Theses.
