Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto (FMRP) (Institutional affiliation for the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
He has a degree in Medicine (1995), specialization in Pathology (1998), Masters (2001) and Doctorate (2002) in Human Pathology by the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto of the University of São Paulo (FMRP / USP). He has a postdoctoral degree from Stanford University, California, USA (2007). Since 2004, he has been teaching at the Department of Pathology at FMRP / USP. He is the current Deputy Chief of the Department of Pathology and Legal Medicine of FMRP / USP. He works in the area of pathology, with emphasis on oncological pathology. He studies several types of cancer, including breast cancer, gynecological cancer, head and neck cancer (including salivary gland tumors) and prostate cancer. He has extensive experience with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
The oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have high incidence in Brazil corresponding to nearly 95% of all oral malignancies. The OSCC molecular biology is very complex because this carcinoma develops from dysfunction of many interrelated signaling pathways. The active PI3K/AKT pathway is involved in cellular growth and cell survival beyond to block apoptosis. Dysfunctions in this pathway...
Mucin 1 may behave as an oncogene and may perform an important role during breast cancer development. Recently, our research group showed that MUC1 is overexpressed in invasive breast ductal carcinoma and that this oncogene could be involved in hypoxia regulation through differential expression of HIF-1± (hypoxia-inducible factor-1±). The purpose of this study is to investigate the poss...
Homologous recombination (HR) are one of double-strand break (DSB) repair pathways BRCA1 and BRCA2, associated with the RAD51 protein, accumulates in DNA damage foci after signaling H2AX, a DNA damage marker that accumulates in lesion foci, associated to ATM/ATR pathway, leading to DNA repair. Topoisomerase III beta (TopoIII beta) removes HR intermediates before the segregation of chro...

Signaling through the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) eventually became a rather complex growth signaling pathway, reflecting the wide range of physiological functions controlled via FGF-FGFR (fibroblast growth factor receptor). The FGF family in mammals consists of 18 ligands that exert their functions through 4 transmembrane receptors with tyrosine kinase activity (FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3 ...

Head and neck cancer represents 600,000 new cancers worldwide each year, and almost 90% of them are squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). With the exception of HPV status with its known implications, numerous molecular and clinical risk factors have been investigated over the decades. Unfortunately, these risk factors have demonstrated limited clinical utility, and prognostic biomarker resea...
