She holds a degree in Biological Sciences (2001), PhD in Sciences (2006), postdoctoral (2008) and Livre-docencia (2017) by the University of São Paulo. She is currently associate professor at the Institute of Biosciences of the University of São Paulo. She got training in the University of Florida and University of Wollongong. She maintains active international collaborations with researchers from the United States, Portugal, Australia and the Netherlands. She also participates in academic activities at various levels, where she was a student representative in the postgraduate committee of the physiology department of the Institute of Biosciences of the University of São Paulo, she was a tutor for undergraduate and postgraduate students at IB-USP. Prof. Merari supervises research projects, she is deputy coordinator of the animal ethics committee and of the undergraduate committee, coordinator of molecular sciences course. She represents associate professors in the department of genetics and evolutionary biology and in the IB-USP director borad. She has been involved in outreach activities such as the IB-USP Winter Course, the IB-USP Genetics and Evolutionary Biology Department Summer Course and the IB-USP Thematic Week, as well as mentoring high school students in scientific projects. She has experience in Neurophysiology, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology, working mainly on the following topics: neuron culture, molecular and cellular biology, gene expression analysis, neurodegeneration, cellular communication, mitochondrial transport, intracellular traffic and formation of protein aggregates.
