graduation at Civil Engineering from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1978), master's at Saúde Pública from Faculdade de Saúde Pública Universidade de São Paulo (1997) and doctorate at Saúde Pública from Faculdade de Saúde Pública Universidade de São Paulo (2001). He is currently professor associado at Universidade de São Paulo. Has experience in Sanitary Engineering, acting on the following subjects: tratamento esgotos comunidades, esgotos disposição à superfície solo, saneamento básico, tecnologias custo desenvolvimento and despoluição águas esgotos.
