Post-doctoral training in pancreatic islet physiology at the University of Oxford (2006-2008). Has experience in Byophysics, focusing on Cellular Biophysics, acting on the following subjects: regulation of insulin and glucagon secretion by pancreatic islets, intracellular pH and calcium homeostasis, fatty acid and proton transport in lipid bilayers and teaching strategies in Physiology. Pancreatic islets contain four different endocrine cell types. Their secretion is triggered by the firing of action potentials. Amongst them are the ² cells that secrete insulin, the only hypoglycemiant hormone in the organism. Low insulin secretion is one of the hallmarks of Diabetes Mellitus.
