Dr. I. Costa has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the State University of Campinas (1981), a master's degree in Nuclear Technology - emphasis on Materials from the University of São Paulo (1986) - IPEN and a PhD from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) - Corrosion and Protection Center (1991). He joined the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research in 1984 at the Center for Materials Science and Technology. Since 1992, she has worked as a postgraduate advisor in the Nuclear Technology program at IPEN-USP, having supervised 24 masters and 22 doctors on the topic of Corrosion. He has 240 works published in peer review journals. In May 2019 he assumed the Research, Development and Teaching Coordination of IPEN/CNEN, and, in March 2022, the Board of Directors of IPEN/CNEN, a role he currently holds at the institution. The main topics of research interest are corrosion of aluminum alloys, stainless steels, biomaterials and surface treatments for protection against corrosion, in addition to correlation studies between the microstructure and corrosion of materials.
