Graduated in Natural History, at Faculdade de Filosofia, ciências e Letras, at São José do Rio Preto / SP (1974), MSc (1987) and Ph.D. (1989) in Genetics at the São Paulo State University- UNESP. Postdoctoral studies at the University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ, USA) in the period 1993-1995, on the subject ?Genetics and Evolution of Transposable Elements?, and at the University of Lyon I (Lyon, France) in 2006, on the ? Effects of transposable elements in the evolution of insecticide resistance?. Currently is Full Professor at UNESP and Researcher, level 1C, of CNPq. Coordinates formalized international cooperation projects with Universities and Research Institutes (CAPES / COFECUB: CNRS / Gif-sur-Ivete; FAPESP / CNRS: University of Lyion 1; CAPES / Agropolis Foundation: IRD and University of Montpellier 2; UNESP / University of Leuven, Belgium) and participates in committees governing bodies of UNESP (Institutional Committee of PIBIC / PIBIT; UNESP Council on Foreign Relationships , as representative of the Biological Sciences area). Her research areas are mainly Genetics and Evolution and Bioinformatics and Molecular Evolution. In this area, investigates the phylogenetic relationships of transposable elements harbored by the genomes of various organisms, the horizontal gene transfer and the effects of these elements in the structure and function of genomes.
