Graduate in Medicine and PH.D. and Full professor in Infectious Diseases Pathology. Associate professor of Dept.Pathology FMUSP and chief of Protozoology Lab. at Tropical Medicine Institute, both at University of São Paulo. His main projects are devoted to the pathology of infectious diseases, in all of their aspects, specially from protozoan diseases. Promoted and was the first coordinator of Masters and Ph.D.s program in Tropical Medicine, whihc was evaluated as 5 by CAPES. Their main diagnostic projects are devoted to protozoan diseases, as toxoplamosis, malaria and leishmaniasis. Aside to this aplicated approaches, he also defveloped projects in cell imunity of malaria, studying progenitor cells in spleen on gene expression of axis CXCL12-CXCR4-CXCR7, as well as population studies on haplotypes of those genes. For molecular epidemiology, we also study phlebotomine infections by leishmania and sources of outbreaks of human or animal toxoplasmosis. He is also a collaborator in the Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia para Febres Hemorrágicas Virais, do Instituto Evandro Chagas e coordenado pelo Prof. P. Vasconcelos, dealing with the in situ immune response in affected patients.
