I am graduated in Philosophy in the Universidade de São Paulo (1971), master in Philosophy of Science in the Universidade de São Paulo (1979) and phd in Philosophy of Science in the Universidade de São Paulo (1986). From 2005 on I am Full Professor of Theory of Knowledge and Philosophy of Science in the Department of Philosophy - Universidade de São Paulo. I have founded iin 2003 the review Scientiae Studia-Latin-American Review of Philosophy and History of Science, being the editor-in-chief since the begining. I have founded in 2004 the Philosophical Association Scientiae Studia to give support to the editorial activities of the review and of the Collection of Studies on Science and Technology. I have experience in the areas of Philosophy, History and Sociology of Science and Technology, working mainly in the following themes: The scientific revolution of 16th and 17th centuries (with special enphasis in authors such as Copernicus, Bruno, Kepler, Galilei, Descartes, Huygens and Newton); The Industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries; Cognitive and social values in scientific research and technological development; The relations between science, technology, and society. Actually I am director of the Group of Research in Philosophy, History, and Sociology of Science and Technology of the Advanced Studies Institute of the University of São Paulo (IEA-USP).
