Holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1987), a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1990), and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cambridge (1996). Currently, he is a professor at the University of São Paulo.
